What we install

Three technologies. One joined-up energy system.

Solar makes the power, a battery keeps it for after dark, and a heat pump turns the cheapest hours of the day into hot water. Take one, or let us design all three to work together.

Heat Pump Hot Water

A heat pump moves heat instead of making it, so it delivers the same hot showers on roughly a quarter of the electricity.

  • Runs on solar with smart scheduling
  • Direct swap for gas or electric storage
  • Quiet operation, engineered for VIC winters

The Handy Volt difference

Electricians first, salespeople never

Handy Volt is a licensed Victorian electrical contractor. Every quote is drawn up by the same people who will be on your roof — which is why our systems are sized to your bill, not to a commission target.

  • A real site assessment. Roof pitch, shading, switchboard capacity and your last four bills — before a number is quoted.
  • Hardware we'd fit at home. Tier-1 panels, hybrid inverters and batteries chosen for service support in Australia, not just the spec sheet.
  • Rebates done for you. We handle STC assignment and eligible Victorian rebate paperwork, and show the discount on the quote.
  • We answer after handover. Monitoring set up on day one, and a local number that reaches the person who did the work — not a call centre.

How it works

From first call to first sunny day

Most residential installs are finished inside three weeks, and you only deal with one team the whole way through.

Free consultation

We look at your bills, your roof on satellite and how your household actually uses power, then talk through the options — on the phone or at your kitchen table.

Design & fixed quote

A full system layout, string plan and production forecast, with rebates and STCs already deducted. One page, one number, no asterisks.

Install day

Our own CEC-accredited crews. Most residential systems go in inside a day, the site is left clean and we walk you through the switchboard before we leave.

Connect & monitor

We lodge the grid connection, commission the system and set up monitoring on your phone so you can see every kilowatt-hour from day one.

The quiet win

Hot water is the biggest bill nobody thinks about

In a typical Victorian home, heating water is around a quarter of the energy bill. A heat pump does the same job by moving warmth out of the air rather than burning through resistive elements or gas.

  • Pair it with solar. Schedule the heating cycle for the middle of the day and it runs almost entirely on your own generation.
  • Swap out gas. A straight replacement for a gas storage or instantaneous unit, with no gas connection needed afterwards.
  • Right-sized tanks. 170 L for a couple through to 300 L for a busy family of six or seven.
  • Built for the cold. Units selected to hold their efficiency through a Melbourne winter morning, not just a lab test.

Everything electrical, under one licence

Handy Volt is a full electrical contractor, so the work around your clean-energy system is handled by the same crew.

EV charger installation

7 kW and 22 kW wall chargers, load-balanced against your switchboard and set to charge off your solar.

Switchboard upgrades

Old ceramic fuses and undersized boards brought up to current standards with RCBO protection throughout.

Servicing & fault-finding

Inverter faults, panel cleaning, isolator replacements and annual health checks — on systems we installed or inherited.

Energy monitoring

Circuit-level metering so you can see exactly which appliances are quietly eating your generation.

Common questions

The things people ask us first

It depends far more on when you use power than on how much. A household that's out all day and cooks at night gets very different value from a 10 kW array than one with someone home, a pool pump and a heat pump running at midday. We read your last four bills, check the interval data where your meter provides it, and size the array to what you'll self-consume — then look at whether a battery closes the rest of the gap.

For some homes, clearly. For others, not quite. With feed-in tariffs low and evening rates high, a battery earns its keep when you have solid daytime generation and a heavy evening load — or when blackout backup matters to you regardless of the payback. We'll model both cases honestly and tell you if the numbers don't stack up for your household yet.

In the vast majority of homes, yes — it's a direct swap. The old unit comes out, the heat pump goes in on the same slab or a new one, and it connects to your existing hot water plumbing. If your gas hot water was the last gas appliance in the house, you also get the option of dropping the gas supply charge altogether.

Most solar and heat pump installs qualify for federal Small-scale Technology Certificates, which we assign and deduct from your quote so you never pay the full amount up front. Victorian households may also be eligible for state incentives depending on income, property value and whether the address has claimed before. Eligibility rules change, so we confirm what applies to your address in writing before you commit.

A standard residential solar install is a single day on site. Add a battery and it's usually a day and a half. Heat pump changeovers are typically half a day. The longer part is the paperwork either side — grid pre-approval before, and meter reconfiguration by your distributor after — which together usually run two to four weeks.

We're based in Wollert and cover metropolitan Melbourne — north, west, east and the bayside suburbs — plus Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and the Macedon Ranges. If you're further out, call us anyway; we schedule regional runs most months.
